From the recording The Same Folksinger

This song was written many years ago in Milwaukee, somewhere between gigs at "The General Store" concert series that was run by Pat Dunican and Katy Moran at Marquette, the 19th Street Coffeehouse up the road, and benefit shows introduced by radio/TV emcee Bobby Rivers. The song is even more true now than it was back then.

Lyrics

Come in from the rain, my friend
You can put your pain on me again
I'm going somewhere
Would you like to come along?
You can lean your soul on me
Love will make us strong
I'm still the same folksinger
Singing the same folk songs

The rain was falling from the sky
You called to me with your eyes
You said, Is God gone from this city
Or has He just slipped out of sight?
When your song is going wrong
I'll try to make it right
I'm still the same folksinger
And I'll sing you a song tonight

And you can sing if you want to
Listen if you choose
You can ride any rainbow to the sea
Laugh if it makes you
You can cry if it breaks you
Don't you leave the crying up to me
Don'r you leave the crying up to me

Time moves on like a traveling train
Some years are gone and some tears remain
We're older than we once were
And younger than we'll be
And the songs we'd sung when we were young
Were so simple and so free
I'm still the same folksinger
You're still the same sad child to me

You can sing if you want to
Listen if you choose
You can ride any rainbow to the sea
Laugh if it makes you
Cry if it breaks you
But don't you loeave the crying up to me
Don't you leave the crying up to me

Come in from the rain, my friend
You can put your pain on me again
I'm going somewhere
Would you like to come along
You can lean your soul on me
And love will make you strong
I'm still the same folksinger
Singing the same folk songs
I'm still the same folksinger
Singing the same folk songs
