  1. Minstrel Shows

From the recording Minstrel Shows

One of North New Jersey's longest running coffeehouses in The Minstrel (formerly The Ministrel Show). This song emerged from a visit there on a wintry evening, sometime after they'd moved locations. This song is for folksingers, the clubs and coffeehouses we sing at, and all of those people who invest their time and energy to make these venues warm listening places for people.

Lyrics

Rolling down a lonely road a mile or two from town
The highway winds past roadway signs, trees and darkness all around
The wind will chill this lonely hill
I'm glad you had a sign
The light inise this window eased my mind
For this room is full of graces once you walk in
And a song can bring you places that you've never been
It's like perfume leaving traces upon your skin
It's like seeing an old friend
And saying how have you been?
How have you been?

Heaven knows that minstrel shows make living light
Wear your heavy clothes, those winter snows may fall all night
The music is on, you sing your song and it feels all right
To be here tonight- There's a song I like
For if you hold tradition with your simple songs
You always have permission, you can sing along
You need not be a musician with a good guitar
Just be who you are
And be your heart

For this world is full of graces yes, once you come in
And a song can bring you places that you've never been
It's like perfume leaving traces upon your skin
It's like seeing an old friend
And saying how have you been?
How have you been?
