A collection of essays on rock music and religion edited by Alex Di Blasi and Bob McParland has been published. 


Concert on March 2 - March 6, 2019

Bob McParland performed at CS/The Barn on Saturday, March 2 with Mike Baron on drums and percussion.

Review Fix and Digital Art Live Interviews - October 20, 2018

You can find interviews with Bob McParland at Review Fix and Digital Arts Live Issue 31. Review Fix is available online. Digital Arts Live, which has imaginative science fiction art, requests a free subscription. The interviews were conducted in August and are about Myth and Magic in Heavy Metal and on Science Fiction in Classic Rock.


Concert August 4 - August 6, 2018

Bob McParland and Mike Baron performed at the Barn, 530 Sicomac Avenue, Wyckoff, New Jersey on Saturday, August 4 to a receptive and fun audience. "She Believes in Elvis" was followed by sing-alongs of "Good to Have a Friend" and cover songs: "Take It Easy," "Proud Mary," "The Boxer" and The Beatles' "Yellow Submarine." The rest of the night was filled with Bob's songs and Mike's tasteful and innovative percussion playing. 




Interview with Digital Arts Live - August 5, 2018

Bob McParland appears in a featured interview with Digital-Arts this week. This online magazine is lavishly illustrated with science fiction imagery and creative artwork. The issue will be posted by mid-week, August 7 and you can see it for free online. The issue will focus on Rock Music and Science Fiction and will include Bob's book Science Fiction in Classic Rock Music

Myth and Magic in Heavy Metal Music Has Been Published - August 5, 2018

Myth and Magic in Heavy Metal Music has been published and is available. Bob provides a literary and musicological approach to this widely popular rock music genre that is closely connected with myth. Bob McParland's own music is not heavy metal but he has a lot to say about the mythical and psychological roots of the heavy metal genre. Finding God in the Devil's Music Critical Essays on Rock and Religion will also be published soon. This volume on saints, sinners, and seekers edited by Alex Di Blasi and Bob McParland is expected by September 2018.

Rock and Religion Book: Finding God in the Devil's Music Will Be Published in August - June 23, 2018

Finding God in the Devil's Music by Alex Di Blasi and Bob McParland collects essays that span popular music from  Pete Townshend of The Who and Black Sabbath to Bob Dylan and Nine Inch Nails, and from The Beatles to the blues, reggae, and punk. This book examines the impact of the spiritual quest in popular rock music across Jewish, Buddhist, Christian and other perspectives. It explores musical creativity, drug use and consciousness, hierophanies of fan response and communal feeling, and the rare power of music to communicate.

For a first coffeehouse, the Linden Reformed Church did an excellent job of welcoming and providing hospitality for all of its guests.  (Thanks to Arlene Cairns , Pastor Wilfredo Rodriguez, and the entire staff. )
