Rock and Religion Book: Finding God in the Devil's Music Will Be Published in August - June 23, 2018

Finding God in the Devil's Music by Alex Di Blasi and Bob McParland collects essays that span popular music from  Pete Townshend of The Who and Black Sabbath to Bob Dylan and Nine Inch Nails, and from The Beatles to the blues, reggae, and punk. This book examines the impact of the spiritual quest in popular rock music across Jewish, Buddhist, Christian and other perspectives. It explores musical creativity, drug use and consciousness, hierophanies of fan response and communal feeling, and the rare power of music to communicate.

Myth and Magic in Heavy Metal Music Has Been Published - June 21, 2018

Myth and Magic in Heavy Metal Music has been published and is available. Bob provides a literary and musicological approach to this widely popular rock music genre that is closely connected with myth. Bob McParland's own music is not heavy metal but he has a lot to say about the mythical and psychological roots of the heavy metal genre. Finding God in the Devil's Music Critical Essays on Rock and Religion will also be published soon. This volume on saints, sinners, and seekers edited by Alex Di Blasi and Bob McParland is expected by September 2018.

Bob McParland and Mike Baron (percussion) performed for an audience in Linden, New Jersey on  Saturday, April 22.. For a first coffeehouse, the Linden Reformed Church did an excellent job of welcoming and providing hospitality for all of its guests.  (Thanks to Arlene Cairns , Pastor Wilfredo Rodriguez, and the entire staff. )

Charles Dickens's American Audience is cited in Tiffany Eberle Kriner's new book (published July 1, 2014), The Future of the Word: An Eschatoloogy of Reading, Fortress Press and in Jonathan Daniel Wells, in "Charles Dickens and the Transatlantic Debate over Slavery" in Slavery and Abolition (May 2014).

Bob McParland will join a talented group of finalists with his song for peace, which is among the songs selected for this year's Tipperary Peace Convention activities on Thursday, July 10 in Tipperary Town, Ireland.
